Senior Paediatric Urology Doctors at NU Hospitals, Bengaluru performed a Robotic Pyeloplasty Surgical Procedure using the Versius Robotic Surgical System for the first time in the world on a Paediatric patient. This was done on a 12 year old boy, a native of Shanubhoganahalli at the outskirts of Bengaluru - who presented with pain in the left flank, for many days. Evaluation identified him to have a congenital anomaly - called Pelvi - Ureteric Junction (PUJ) Obstruction.
This is a condition that causes restriction of flow of urine from the kidney into the ureter, due to a blockage at that level. This had caused him back pressure changes, swelling in the kidney and pain. This also decreased that kidneys function to only 18% The surgery that lasted over four hours was successful and the child had only two 10 mm Incisions, and two 5 mm incisions.
Dr. Prasanna Venkatesh, Sr. Consultant Paediatric Urologist and Robotic Surgeon, NU Hospitals, Bengaluru said "The Versius Robotic Surgical System permits more complex surgeries, especially reconstructive surgeries to be done by the minimally invasive technique. There are less scars, less pain and early recovery. The child can walk the same day and be discharged the next day." Speaking on this momentous event - Dr Krishnaprasad - Sr. Consultant Robotic Urologist - stated that " The Versius Robotic System, helps us to think laparoscopically, but operate with the most advanced robotics technology, which gives us, Surgeons - 3D vision, Magnified Images and better range of movement - which helps in better precision for these complex surgeries"
This child is expected to make a full recovery and hopefully that particular kidney function will improve, when tested after one year. Robotics Surgery, requires a trained team of Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, and OR Nurses, apart from the Robotic Surgical System perse.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ NU ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪೀಡಿಯಾಟ್ರಿಕ್ ಮೂತ್ರಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ವೈದ್ಯರು ವರ್ಸಿಯಸ್ ರೋಬೋಟಿಕ್ ಸರ್ಜಿಕಲ್ ಸಿಸ್ಟಮ್ ಅನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ರೋಬೋಟಿಕ್ ಪೈಲೋಪ್ಲ್ಯಾಸ್ಟಿ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ವಿಧಾನದಿಂದ ವಿಶ್ವದಲ್ಲೇ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಪೀಡಿಯಾಟ್ರಿಕ್ ರೋಗಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಜರಿ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಹೊರವಲಯದ ಶಾನುಭೋಗನಹಳ್ಳಿ ಮೂಲದ 12 ವರ್ಷದ ಬಾಲಕನ ಮೇಲೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಹಲವು ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ ಎಡಭಾಗದ ನೋವಿನಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಜನ್ಮಜಾತ ಅಸಂಗತತೆಯನ್ನು - ಪೆಲ್ವಿ - ಯುರೆಟರಿಕ್ ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ (PUJ) ಅಡಚಣೆ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಇದು ಮೂತ್ರಪಿಂಡದಿಂದ ಮೂತ್ರನಾಳಕ್ಕೆ ಮೂತ್ರದ ಹರಿವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಬಂಧಿಸುವ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಮೂತ್ರಪಿಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಊತ ಮತ್ತು ನೋವುನಿಂದಾಗಿ ಬೆನ್ನು ನೋವು ಸಹ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿತ್ತು. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಮೂತ್ರಪಿಂಡಗಳ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಕೇವಲ 18% ಕ್ಕೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ನಾಲ್ಕು ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನಡೆದ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಗುವಿಗೆ ಕೇವಲ ಎರಡು 10 ಎಂಎಂ ಛೇದನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಎರಡು 5 ಎಂಎಂ ಛೇದನಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದ್ದವು.

ಈ ಮಗು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಚೇತರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದಾಗ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಮೂತ್ರಪಿಂಡದ ಕಾರ್ಯವು ಸುಧಾರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ರೊಬೊಟಿಕ್ಸ್ ಸರ್ಜರಿಗೆ, ರೊಬೊಟಿಕ್ ಸರ್ಜಿಕಲ್ ಸಿಸ್ಟಮ್ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ, ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಕರು, ಅರಿವಳಿಕೆ ತಜ್ಞರು ಮತ್ತು ದಾದಿಯರ ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆದ ತಂಡದ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ.
