BENGALURU – The Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media (IIJNM) and Bangalore International Center (BIC) will present a meet-the-author session with Ruben Banerjee, who has written a new book Editor Missing: The Media in Today's India, at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 22, at the BIC.
Ruben Banerjee will speak about his upcoming book, providing much-needed clarity on the state of the Indian media today touching upon the declining power and role of an editor. A one-on-one conversation between Maya Sharma, journalist (NDTV) and Banerjee will be followed by a panel discussion, which will be attended by KS Dakshina Murthy, Managing Editor, The Federal, and Samar Halarnkar, columnist and journalist. A short Q&A session with the audience will follow the discussion.
Banerjee was the editor-in-chief of Outlook. The title of the book is in reference to the magazine’s provocative cover titled ‘Missing’. Banerjee exited Outlook magazine in September 2021 shortly after that. He has worked as the National Affairs Editor of Hindustan Times and as an editor with Al Jazeera English, India Today and the Indian Express. He is the author of Naveen Patnaik, an unauthorised biography of the Odisha chief minister and The Orissa Tragedy: a Cyclone’s Year of Tragedy, both of which were well-received. This is his third book.
With over three decades of experience as a journalist, Banerjee knows the industry like the back of his hand. He has witnessed, observed, and experienced the highs and lows of Indian media. The book gives us a glimpse into the lives of editors; strife with political and corporate pressures, the books sheds a light on the risks involved in upsetting the powerful.
The Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media is a post-graduate school of journalism located in the suburbs of Bangalore, India. It was founded in 2001 by the BS&G Foundation, a collaboration between The George Foundation and Adi Chunchangiri Maha Samasthana.
